Sebastian Fundora faced almost no resistance tonight in a one-sided beatdown win over Keith Thurman, and told PBC’s Jim Gray after the bout that he thought the fight would be tougher than it was.

“It was a lot easier than I expected,” he admitted in his post-fight interview.

Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KO) said that he had been “a little nervous” earlier in the day, because Thurman (31-2, 23 KO) has been such a “big name” in the sport over the years, and was probably the biggest-name opponent that Fundora has faced to date.

“But I reminded myself,” he said, “as soon as you step in the ring, you’re in my world.”

Fundora, 28, dominated the action from the opening bell, and although the 37-year-old Thurman looked willing to go out on his shield — and he had been trying to find a way into the fight, however desperate it was — referee Thomas Taylor stopped the bout in round six.

It could be the end of the road for the veteran Thurman, while Fundora says that he’s willing to face anyone next, and that he believes the 154 lb division is the best in the sport.

Fundora retained his WBC super welterweight title with the victory.
