Personally, I'm sick of the conversation already, but I do respect Jason Fitzgerald's outlook on the situation.

For those that don't know, Fitzgerald is the founder of OverTheCap, and he's literally written a book on the NFL salary cap. He tracks this sort of thing, and offers the financial outlook of this move from the Lions.

He deems the Lions' recouping of Ragnow's signing bonus as "petty" and even concludes:

"I don’t think any other team in the NFL would have done this to be honest even though it is their right."

I do have some questions about his numbers, and the assumption that he makes about the Lions going after the signing bonus this year instead of last year (I don't know which is actually true), but I view this as a relatively objective analysis of the situation. Worth a read:
