According to reports in Argentina, Manchester City are set to make a €145 million offer to Chelsea for midfielder Enzo Fernández before the end of the transfer window. The player has reportedly given the green light to join his old manager Enzo Maresca at the Etihad. That figure would make the Argentine the joint-record Premier League transfer after Alexander Isak moved from Newcastle to Liverpool for the same fee last summer. The player has a current market value of €100m.

Back in January 2023, off the back of winning the 2022 World Cup, Chelsea paid an at the time league record fee of €121m to bring Fernández in from Benfica. The player had only been at the Portuguese side for six months. Since then, the midfielder has made 170 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 31 goals and providing 30 assists. He enjoyed some of his best football at Stamford Bridge under Maresca, before the Italian left the club in January and subsequently joined Man City.

Fernández featured off the bench against Fulham in Chelsea's 3-2 opening win to a chorus of boos from the home fans. He scored the winning goal for Argentina in the World Cup semi-final against England, before being petulantly sent off in the final defeat to Spain. If the transfer goes through for €145m or more, it will set a number of records - including making him the most expensive centre-midfielder ever and the most expensive Argentinian ever.
