Norwich City 4-1 Burnley: Nicky Hayen Championship reaction

The recently-relegated Clarets were 3-0 down after 21 minutes before Josh Laurent pulled one back.

Andre Brooks sealed the win prior to a second yellow card for Laurent capped another winless outing for the former Bruges and Ghenk boss.

“Of course I can explain it, it's a disaster that we had in the first 30 minutes,” said Clarets' boss Hayen.

“We can talk about tactics and energy and intensity, but if we start the game with individual mistakes, and I can accept individual mistakes because you don't do it on purpose, but it doesn't help us at the moment.

“We came out of the dressing room with really good energy. We wanted to show that intensity and suddenly you see a team that is struggling.

“For the second goal from the corner kick, where we concede where the goal is, you just have to clear that ball, don't hesitate, put it in the stands, ready for the new action.

“At the moment, we concede way too many goals, but it was actually a game with two faces.

"We showed two faces the first 30 minutes, but also the 15 minutes after that, you see that we have a lot of potential in our group, that you find the spaces between the lines, that you create opportunities, that you scored that goal, and then you felt that we had the benefit of that goal and changed the game a little bit in our favour.

"But then at half-time, we said we have to score the second goal to let the home team down, and I think we had a moment with Jacob (Bruun Larsen), but then you miss also that kind of luck.”

Hayden conducted a World Cup style mass huddle with his squad prior to kick-off in front of the away dug out at Carrow Road.

“We wanted to change the things around because what we showed the last few days on the training sessions was really, really good, and we just have to transfer this on the on the pitch.

"And you saw it actually for 15 minutes.

"Okay, you're 3-0 down, but these 15 minutes was actually the things that we showed on the training session, and this is something that we have to do consistently.

"It's not the start that we hope for, not at all. I'm really disappointed that we had this start, but also 100pc confident that we can change these things.”
