Pub standard Rangers read the riot act as Hotline rings alarm bells despite Aberdeen win

Robbie Copeland takes your calls as Rangers take it in the neck for their performance

Derek McInnes may have picked up his first league win as Rangers boss but the Hotline is far from convinced by their performance at Pittodrie.

Russell Black, Banchory, said: "A match of extremely low quality, at least McInnes played Curtis from the start but he needs Barron in the middle so he can help a very unreliable defence! What is he thinking about?"

Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: "One of the glaring deficiencies in this Rangers team is the poor quality of midfielder, as Dan Neil remains invisible and we have recruited a ball winner in Devlin. We still lack serious vision and creativity in middle of the park. It's ok signing potential but we need proven quality to win the league this year."

Gordon Hendry, Ochiltree, said: "As a Rangers fan I was a bit happier with our performance against Aberdeen. However, we are handicapped in the middle of the park playing Dan Neil. He wouldn't get a game for my old pal Tommy Sloan's team at Auchinleck Talbot. He's a poor addition to our squad, but our new man Minsu Kim looks the part. Let's hope Kevin Kelsy is of similar quality."

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: "That was two massive shocks in the sporting calendar over the weekend. Firstly tennis legend Djokovic losing in the first round of the American Open, followed by Derek McInnes claiming three points in his first league win. Sensational stuff."

Stephen Robinson said the key decisions went against Aberdeen in that one and Andy Welsh agreed as he said: "New season, same decisions for Rangers. Penalty Rangers, no penalty for Aberdeen. Not a bit surprised. Another long season with all the decisions going Rangers' way no doubt."

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: "Rangers season ticket holders are tearing their hair out after below par performance against Aberdeen, lucky to escape with a win. If I were a supporter I would be tearing up my season ticket and boycotting all further games till there's a change of management and board. As it stands my local pub team have a better chance of challenging for the league."

And a quick word for Celtic as John Scott, Grassmoor, reckons they're copying Hibs. He said: "Celtic now seem to be using the same trading model as Hibs. Sell your best players and use the money to replace them. For Hibs that brings an eternity of treading water with no chance of progressing. Win a cup every 20 years at best.

"For Celtic, it makes no sense whatsoever. It's slight of hand from the Celtic board. It's like they have a really nice car in the garage. Each year they pull out the engine and replace it with a similar model. The problem is it doesn't go any faster. It tears around Knockhill leaving the locals in its slipstream but as soon as it heads to Le Mans it coughs and splutters and pulls up after a couple of laps.
