Portadown Football Club is today delighted to confirm the appointment of David Jeffrey MBE as the club’s new first-team manager.
Jeffrey arrives at Shamrock Park as a name synonymous with football in Northern Ireland, but most importantly with winning having a track-record of lifting league titles and trophies during his time in charge of both Linfield and Ballymena United.
Following a 14-year playing career with Linfield, Ards and Larne the Newtownards native took over the reins at Windsor Park in 1997, going on to lift 32 trophies including 9 Irish League titles, 7 Irish Cups and 6 ‘doubles’ as well as the inaugural Setanta Cup in 2005 during a trophy laden 17-year spell as manager.
Jeffrey would depart the Blues in 2014 before returning to management with Ballymena United in 2017, leading the Sky Blues to European club competition on two occasions, finishing second in the league in 2019, reaching three League Cup finals, winning one, and also contesting three Irish Cup deciders and two County Antrim Shield finals, before departing in 2023.
The new Portadown manager will take up his post following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Sports Direct Premiership campaign, with Gary Thompson remaining in charge for this Saturday’s final fixture against Bangor.
David will be joined by David Douglas who returns to Shamrock Park as Head of Recruitment and Football Operations, David is of course no stranger to supporters having worked as Performance Analyst at the club between 2023 and 2025 under Niall Currie.
