Whites boss Daniel Farke has provided his Leeds United team news for Sundayâs first home game of the new Premier League season against Brentford with updates on Gabi Gudmundsson and Willy Gnonto.
Gudmundsson and Gnonto are yet to feature so far this season having suffered hamstring injuries in Unitedâs friendlies, Gudmundsson injuring his hamstring in the win against Liverpool in America and Gnonto in the draw against Manchester United in Dublin.
Speaking earlier this week ahead of Tuesday nightâs Carabao Cup clash at Nottingham Forest, Farke said he was hoping that both would be back in training soon and possibly this week.
Leeds face Brentford at Elland Road on Sunday in their first home game of the new Premier League season, ahead of which Farke held his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon at Thorp Arch.
Farke revealed that Gnonto and Gudmundsson were both due to return to training on Friday and that a check would then be taken on how they reacted.
Farke had effectively already ruled out midfielder Ilia Gruev, the Whites boss saying earlier this week that the Bulgarian only returned to full training last week and would need at least two weeks of full training before being considered for selection.
Farke, though, said on Friday that Gruev could also have a chance of featuring if needed, albeit adding that normally minutes in the under-21s would be had first.
Farke said on Friday: âIlia after a long term injury, itâs his second week of training with the team so edging closer. Gabi Gudmundsson and Willy Gnonto will join us this afternoon for first time then we have to see how they react. As it stands, all players available.â
Of Gruev, Farke added: âHe missed more or less four months so we have to make a decision. Physically he is edging closer, he looks good in training. Normally youâd give a player more minutes in the Under-21s but heâs experienced and if I need him, Iâd have no problems. We donât have to rush it because everyone is available.â
