The search for further midfield reinforcements is paused a little at the moment, with United waiting to see how the Elliot Anderson situation develops, while West Ham and Brighton continue to price Mateus Fernandes and Carlos Baleba out of moves.

The question might be whether either player is willing to try and force a move and get their current club to bend. Fernandes has options and looks certain to leave the London Stadium, but nobody will pay £85million.

Baleba wanted Old Trafford last summer and he does again now, but Brighton's asking price remains too high for United. Maybe Baleba could do what his international teammate Bryan Mbeumo did, and try and force Brighton's hand? Mbeumo made it clear he only wanted to sign for United.

It's a risky strategy, but it might need to be used during the summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly willing to satisfy Elliot Anderson's salary requirements as Manchester United are understood to remain in contention against Manchester City for his services.

The Guardian are reporting that United remain determined to secure Anderson with claims that club executives are optimistic they can pip City to his signature. Despite the considerable expenditure required, it has been suggested that Sir Jim would be willing to meet Anderson's wage request.

The 23-year-old currently earns £100,000 per week at the City Ground and whichever Manchester outfit he joins, a 50 per cent rise is anticipated. City have already submitted an offer that was turned down and are now preparing a second proposal exceeding £80m, though that remains well short of Forest's valuation.

Manchester United-linked Morgan Rogers insists he is staying focused amid transfer links with Old Trafford.

Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, he said: "I think the first time it ever happened, you are in an uncomfortable spot of not realising that people have so much interest in you and you’re not quite realising it.

"But as you get older and you are getting exerience along the way, you know that comes with it. Ninety-five per cent of it is just noise, you hear it of course you do, you can’t help not.

"You know it is there but you have got to use it as a positive way. You have got to get on with your game and just focus."

It is claimed that Real Madrid will also target West Ham's Fernandes for reinforcements this summer. That could spell bad news for United, given the allure of Real often proves too difficult to turn down.

With Florentino Perez's presidency intact and Jose Mourinho on the way back, Real can now begin their summer restructure in earnest. And Perez has promised big signings will be delivered following a trophy-less campaign in Madrid, with Fernandes a possible addition.

Reds captain Bruno Fernandes has supported reported United target Rafael Leao after his recent red card controversy. AC Milan winger Leao was shown a straight red card for swiping at the face of Chile's Ivan Roman in Portugal's warm-up friendly ahead of the World Cup.

"Regarding my sending off, I simply wanted to protect my teammate and never intended to hurt the opponent," wrote Leao in an Instagram update after the scuffle. "Thank you to all the Portuguese fans who were at Jamor; the atmosphere was incredible. We move forward together."

Replying to Leao's post, the United talisman wrote simply "Together."

Welcome to our live coverage of the latest Man United transfer news. Atalanta midfielder Ederson is set to become Michael Carrick's first signing this summer. The Reds have agreed a £35million deal and the Brazilian is set to sign a four-year contract with the option of an extra year.

United were hoping to conclude the move in early July, but that timescale is now set to shift after the 26-year-old was called up for the Brazil squad as a replacement for the injured Wesley.
