Marcus Rashford is on loan with Barcelona with the Catalan giants having the option to make the move permanent in the summer

Marcus Rashford is one of five players expected to leave Barcelona this summer, with a return to Manchester United on the cards. Reports in Spain claim that the club will not make the loan move permanent.

The forward is on loan from United, with Barca having the option to make the move permanent in the summer for a £26 million fee. However, there have been mixed reports over the club's willingness to trigger that option.

It's been suggested that Barcelona have tried to renegotiate a lower fee with United, or even tried to agree a deal to take Rashford on loan again next season. However, United are not budging on their valuation.

According to Spanish media outlet Marca, Rashford is now one of five players who are expected to leave Barcelona in the summer having 'completed a cycle' at the club. In his 43 games this season, he has scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists.

Should Rashford return to United, whoever is in the head coach role will have to decide his future. They can either reintegrate him into the squad and hope he shows the form that saw him break into the first team, or look for another potential buyer for the forward.

The England international spent the second half of last season on loan with Aston Villa. In his 17 appearances for the club, he scored four goals and provided six assists.

He has broken back into Thomas Tuchel's England squad over the last year and will be hoping to be a big part of this summer's World Cup in North America. The buy clause in Rashford's Barcelona loan deal expires on June 15, four days after the start of the tournament.

As well as Rashford, fellow striker Robert Lewandowski is included on the list. The Poland international is out of contract at the Nou Camp this summer, with reports suggesting that his representatives are in talks with Juventus.

Frenkie de Jong, Andreas Christensen and Marc Masado are the other three players who look set to leave the club at the end of the season.

The exits are said to be part of an operation to provide some financial legroom and let go of some of the club's big earners to ease its 'financial burden'.

Barcelona have been blocked from completing signings in recent seasons due to their need to comply with La Liga's Financial Fair Play rules. Reducing their wage bill could give them some more wriggle room in the upcoming transfer window.
