The ball falls to Ollie Banks at a tight angle but the midfielder's half volley goes well over.
It wouldn't have counted any way. Flag's up for offside.

Balls are being sent in from both sides of the pitch for Rochdale but York remain resolute at the back.
At the other end, York have earned themselves another corner from the left.
You can't keep your eyes off this one.

End-to-end stuff.
York go long and the ball eventually lands at the feet of Ollie Pearce but his volley is superbly blocked by a Rochdale defender who threw himself at the effort.
At the other end, Dale get in behind, and Tobi Adebayo-Rowling's low ball in is well intercepted by Zak Johnson.

Late challenge from Rochdale's Harvey Gilmour just inside his own half.
Gilmour was out of control sliding in and looked to try and pull out at the last minute - I think that is the reason why he is not the first man in the book today.
The resulting free-kick is intelligently played down the side and 34-goal man Ollie Pearce is played in but Rochdale's Oliver Whatmuff comes out to meet him to make a good save.
Referee Will Finnie saw an infringement off the ball however. Free-kick Rochdale.

First clear sight of goal goes to the home side.
The ball lands at the feet of Luke Hannant but he can't control his strike from just outside the box and it goes well over the bar.

York grab the first corner of the game and it is a terrific delivery from Jeff King - this one is right on the money.
Rochdale's Oliver Whatmuff comes out and gets a hand to tip the ball away otherwise his goal was under threat.

Optimistic shouts from Rochdale fans behind the goal.
York keeper Harrison Male grabs two hands on a hanging ball and Dan Moss comes in from the far side to bundle the ball into the back of the net but it was a clear foul on the goalkeeper - even if they are overprotected these days.
Good early spell for the home side though.

Ollie Pearce. As his former club Worthing strive for promotion as National League South champions this lunchtime, one question remains: Just how many more goals can Ollie add, for National League leaders York City, to his present 2025-26 tally of 34?
Roger, Angmering
Pearce signed for York from Worthing in 2024 and has enjoyed an incredibly prolific campaign with 34 goals and nine assists in 45 appearances, having scored 31 last season. His former club are at home to Ebbsfleet today and can seal the National League South title and a place in the National League with a win.

Really good hold-up play by Rochdale centre forward Emmanuel Dieseruvwe and he wins his side a free-kick.
The ball is sent in and there's a bit of head tennis inside the York penalty area but the visitors eventually clear their lines up to the halfway line.

York right-back Jeff King is involved in an altercation with Dan Moss.
Referee Will Finnie has a word with King before ushering the defender back 10 yards.
The resulting free-kick comes to nothing.

The atmosphere as you would expect at the start of this one is electric.
In the opening stages, the ball goes back into the Rochdale box from the right and Josh Stones attempts a cushioned header but it goes comfortably into the grateful arms of keeper Oliver Whatmuff.
